How to Find the Keywords the Amazon Algorithm Thinks Are Most Relevant for a Product

If you’re wondering why your product isn’t ranking or why your PPC ads aren’t getting impressions, it might be because Amazon doesn’t see your keywords as relevant. No matter how great your keyword research is, if Amazon’s algorithm isn’t on board, you’re fighting an uphill battle. That’s where Amazon Recommended Rank filter comes in—it helps you figure out which keywords Amazon actually thinks are relevant to your product.

To find these keywords, use Amazon Recommended Rank feature in Cerebro to discern how closely a keyword aligns with your product in Amazon’s eyes. The lower the rank (with 1 being the best), the more relevant Amazon considers it. For example, if you're selling a stainless steel water bottle and “insulated water bottle” has an Amazon Recommended Rank of 3, while “metal bottle” has a rank of 57, you know Amazon sees “insulated water bottle” as a stronger match.

AKA -- if a keyword you thought was important isn’t ranking highly, it’s a sign to check your listing optimization and conversion rates—Amazon might not see your product as the best match for that keyword. So...what’s the move?

Optimize your titles, bullet points, and descriptions to better align with Amazon’s perception of relevance. When you do this right, your organic rankings improve, your PPC campaigns perform better, and your product gets in front of more buyers. Because more visibility = more sales.

And as sellers? We always love more sales!

TLDR: STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE:

  1. Use the Amazon Recommended Rank filter in Cerebro how relevant a keyword is for a product.
  2. Sort Keywords by Amazon Recommended Rank
    • A rank of 1 means Amazon considers the keyword highly relevant.
    • Higher numbers indicate weaker relevance.
  3. Identify Missing Relevant Keywords
    • If a primary keyword isn’t highly ranked, check listing optimization and conversion rates.
  4. Adjust Listing Content
    • Ensure titles, bullets, and descriptions align with Amazon’s perception of product relevance.
